A brilliant world-class interpreter of the most demanding roles in the spinto-drammatico soprano repertory.
Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs entered the international opera scene in the Teatro Regio di Torino production of the critical edition of Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda under the baton of Evelino Pido. Her studies with the great Virginia Zeani equipped her to go on to excel in all of the virtuoso dramatic bel canto roles: Bellini’s Norma (Opera Holland Park, Palm Beach Opera, Theatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro), Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco”(Grand Théâtre de Genève, Theatre National, Nancy, Fr., Costa Rica, Santiago, Chile, Aspendos Festival, Turkey) and Verdi’s Lady Macbeth (Metropolitan Opera, Santiago, Chile, Teatro Solis, Uruguay).
Her repertory also encompasses a wide range of Verdi and Puccini lirico and lirico spinto roles: Violetta in La Traviata (Metropolitan Opera debut, Teatro Argentina de la Plata, Argentina ), Il Trovatore Leonora (Washington National Opera, Opera New Jersey), I Vespri Siciliani Elena (Washington National Opera), Elvira in Ernani (Palm Springs Concert Opera), Aida (Metropolitan Opera, Opera Omaha) Puccini’s Tosca (Metropolitan Opera Sirius broadcast, OFUNAM, Orquesta del Estado de Mexico, Charleston Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, New York City Opera), La Boheme- both Mimi and Musetta ( Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Baltimore Opera), Suor Angelica (Metropolitan Opera, Opera San Antonio), Giorgetta in Il Tabarro (Metropolitan Opera), Liù,(New Zealand Opera, Opera Grand Rapids), Madama Butterfly (Opera Grand Rapids).
Progressing to more dramatic roles, she triumphed as Minnie in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West (Teatro Massimo, Palermo, Castleton Festival, Opera Holland Park, Florida Grand Opera, Teatro de Bellas Artes, Mexico City), and Turandot (Den Norske Oper, Oslo, Theatro Municipal, Sao Paolo Brazil, Grand Theater Xian, China (Grand Opening), Grand Theater of Shanghai)
She then added German repertory: Strauss’ Salome (Den Norske Oper, Oslo, OSN Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City), and Elektra (Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Edmondton Opera)
In Wagner, having sung the two highest Valkyries Helmwige and Ortlinde for the Metropolitan Opera, and The New Zealand Opera and Gutrune in Graham Vick’s production of Götterdämmerung at Palermo’s Teatro Massimo, this season she will present herself in all three Brünnhilde roles in the Ring of the Nibelungen for the Dallas symphony under Mo. Fabio Luisi.
She was the featured artist in the Verdi Bicentennial Concerts at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes, and with the OFUNAM under the baton of Mo. Enrique Patron de Rueda. Her concert appearances include the first Verdi Requiem with the Los Angeles Master Chorale under Grant Gershon at the Disney Concert Hall, and the OSN under Carlos Miguel Prieto in Mexico City, and soloist in the Brahms Requiem at Lincoln Center with the Riverside Chorale.
Conductors with whom she has sung include Lorin Maazel, Bruno Bartoletti, James Levine, Cristoph Eschenbach, Sir Andrew Davis, Marcello Viotti, Gianandrea Noseda, Fabio Luisi, Phillipe Augin, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Evelino Pido, Maurizio Benini, Enrique Patron de Rueda and Enrique Batiz.
